'Flowers for friends' by Abbey Merson
'Flowers for friends'
An original artwork by Hastings artist, Abbey Merson.
Painted in 2024 for my last collection of the year - my version of a 12 days of Christmas advent.
In this body of work, the faces of the subjects are always concealed. I try to put the focus on the flowers and the act of giving or receiving blooms, rather than the individuals themselves.
I feel that adding figures to my florals takes a piece from a still life, to adding movement and meaning.
Each painting captures the fleeting beauty of flowers, and celebrates their role in our most cherished moments and emotions, as well as our day to day lives.
This piece was painted using Winsor & Newton Professional acrylics on a wobbly arched boxed board.
These panels were custom made by the talented Wallace Studio in Wellington, NZ.
There are 12 pieces in the collection, and they all have a unique shape.
This piece measures approx. (due to wobblyness) 300mm x 460mm.
It is 4cm thick, and has been coated in a UV protective varnish.
It will arrive to you ready to hang or gift to a loved one, and last a lifetime.
